What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. – Psalms 56:3-4
There are some times, Beloved, which are, in a special manner, times of fear with God’s people; in these times it is our duty and interest to trust in God as “Our God”, and to know whom we have trusted. This will fix the heart and keep it in peace. Such is the case with the Psalmist, who declares, “What time I am afraid, in the day of my fear, when I am most terrified from without and most timid within, then will I trust in the Lord, and thereby my fears shall be silenced.” He resolves to make God’s promises the matter of his praises, and so we too have reason to make them. To praise, not only His work which He has done, but His word which He has spoken; To praise Him for a promise, though not yet performed, because we Trust in Him!
